Secretary’s Report

This has been our best year for new members since I started in this role with 17 recruited. However that merely replaced the number we lost on renewal of subscriptions and of course that included the sad deaths of John Hardcastle and Bob Hurst. There has also recently been the loss of Bill Reynolds another stalwart member of the Association. I have also heard from David Carr who has moved to Dorset which is where Alan Wells went to a few years ago.

This year’s matches are nearly completed and again I would like to thank Rob,  Gerry, Johns Pettitt and French, Ian and Tony for their help. I do need more volunteers as Rob will be busy being Captain next year. So if you can spare some time for this please let me know. We are going to reintroduce the role of Match Secretary which is a Committee post and  I will advertise this prior to the AGM. However if anyone is interested please contact me for further information.

While on matches the following statistics are interesting

85 members have played in at lease one match with 5 playing in more than 10
This compares with 83 in 2015 and 106 in 2013

116 members were invited to play, but 79 declined at least once.

18 withdrew for various reasons which is the lowest number for some while

The biggest problem this year was the many declines we had, so we ask members when they fill in their picks at the beginning of the year to ensure they are available on those dates as far as they can.

You will see from the agenda that Derek Williams is passing the baton to Doug Ebdon after 16 years as Treasurer. Derek took over after the death of Fred Pritchett in 2001 and has served us very well since then. I have looked back in the minutes and see that the bank balance was about £3500 then so looking at the financial statement today Derek has handed over with a very much healthier situation. He is still playing golf in his mid 80s with a 18 handicap, something I and, I am sure, most of you aspire to. I am very pleased that Doug has voluntered to take over especially as he has tha same accountancy qualification as me.

Next years matches are all fixed as you can see in this newsletter and  I have added a new venue to replace Mentmore which doesnt appear to have reopened.I try to get a spread of venues for the home matches but now we only have Buckingham in the north of the county, except for Woburn of course but I cant get a reasonable price for there. In fact price gets more difficult with only 3 clubs giving us courtesy. We are not as lucky as the other counties we play as most get courtesy from their clubs with no problem.

Should there be any past members known who wish to dispose of their Association jackets please let us know and we will make a nominal payment for the jacket if required.

Doug Ebdon is due to stand down from the Committee as Immediate Past Captain and we thank him for all his good work over the past 5 years. However he is staying on in a new role as Treasurer so wont be leaving yet.
