Captain’s Corner

A Happy New Year to all of our members and colleagues and I wish you good golfing in 2019.

I was extremely honoured to become your Captain in our 40th year. To celebrate this our Spring Meeting is at Buckingham Golf Club on April 11 , exactly 40 years since the Association was officially formed 40 years ago. I have invited the 4 surviving members from that meeting to be our guests for the day and I hope they can all come for you to meet them.

We then have 14 matches against other counties and the Ladies as well as the Past Captain’s and mixed events. I hope to see as many of you as possible in those events. Last year we only had 85 of our 120 members playing in at least one event and I hope more of you will participate this year.

It will be my pleasure to host members and guests at my Captain’s Day at Harleyford on the 17 July. I cannot have it at my home club Chiltern Forest as they are changing our feature hole and it will not be playable as a decent hole.

Our Autumn Meeting and AGM will be at the Dukes course at Woburn on the 23 October. It is a bit later than normal but thanks to Ian Smithie for helping negotiate the deal. We have decided to charge our members only £70 and subsidise the cost to celebrate our anniversary.

My Captain’s Tour this year will be at Belton Woods near Grantham from 23 to the 26 June.  I am sure many of you have played there before and remember the 2 courses are a good challenge and that the hotel is well geared up for guests. I hope that we can have a good turnout and wrest the Miners Lamp from Tony Jefferies.

I am going to continue as Secretary but will rely more on David Liston, Doug Ebdon and the rest of the Committee to help out. I welcome Tony Jefferies and Colin Elwell to the Committee and thank Rob for his contribution over the last 6 years.
